INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Foundation for Educational Choice today praised the Indiana House of Representatives on its 55-43 concurrence vote in favor of House Bill 1003. The legislation establishes a new school voucher program, expands Indiana’s preexisting tax credit scholarship program, and institutes a tax deduction for families with children already enrolled in private school. The Foundation made the following statement:
“We are excited about this step toward educational options for Indiana’s families. We applaud the following individuals for their leadership: Governor Mitch Daniels, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett, House Speaker Brian Bosma, Senate President David Long, Senators Dennis Kruse and Carlin Yoder, and long-time choice advocate and House Education Chair Robert Behning.
“We also thank our partners. A number of groups have been involved in this effort in the past months and years. We are grateful to School Choice Indiana, School Choice Indiana Network, Indiana Catholic Conference, Indiana Non-Public Education Association, Indiana Chamber of Commerce, Indiana BAEO and national allies at the American Federation for Children.”
Robert Enlow, President and CEO of the Foundation for Educational Choice added, "Thanks to the leadership of Governor Mitch Daniels and so many others, Indiana will be at the head of the class when it comes to education reform. Other states should take notice and follow Indiana's lead in providing families real and meaningful educational options.”
