This study is a systematic review of the research on democratic values in private schools. The studies reviewed overwhelmingly found more effective teaching of democratic values in private schools, including more tolerant attitudes towards disliked groups, and higher levels of political participation and volunteerism. For example, the review identified 12 studies providing 18 analyses of tolerant attitudes; ten analyses found private school students were more tolerant, seven were inconclusive, and one found public school students were more tolerant.
