Colorado

Colorado provides K–12 students and their families a few types of school choice, including charter schools, magnet schools, home schooling and public school choice via open enrollment. Colorado does not have any private school choice programs.

Private School Choice

Colorado no longer has a private school choice program. Douglas County, Colorado used to have a district-level school voucher program. After a long legal battle, a new school board repealed the program.

Public School Choice

Colorado has inter-district and intra-district open enrollment policies, which allow students to attend traditional public schools outside their zoned school. Colorado also allows magnet schools.

Charter School Choice

Colorado has many charter schools, which are publicly funded schools that are free from many of the regulations that restrict traditional public schools.

Home School Choice

Parents have to meet certain laws in Colorado when homeschooling their children.
