Louisiana

Louisiana offers K–12 students and their families several types of school choice, including four private school choice programs, charter schools, magnet schools, home schooling and inter-and intra-district public school choice via open enrollment policies.

Private School Choice

Louisiana has four private school choice programs, a school voucher, a tax-credit scholarship, an education savings account, and an individual tax deduction. These programs help families send their children to participating private schools.

Public School Choice

Louisiana allows parents to transfer to traditional public schools outside and within their district via open enrollment policies. Louisiana also has magnet schools.

Charter School Choice

Louisiana has a number of charter schools. Charter schools are publicly funded schools that are free of many of the regulations that restrict traditional public schools.

Home School Choice

Parents have to follow certain laws in Louisiana when homeschooling their children.
