Kansas

Kansas offers K–12 students and their families some types of school choice, including a private school choice program, charter schools, magnet schools, home schooling and inter-district public school choice via an open enrollment policy.

Private School Choice

Kansas has one private school choice program, a tax-credit scholarship. The program helps some families send their children to participating private schools.

Public School Choice

Kansas has an inter-district open enrollment policy, which allows parents to transfer to traditional public schools outside their district. Kansas also has magnet schools.

Charter School Choice

Kansas has a few charter schools. Charter schools are publicly funded schools that are free of many of the regulations that restrict traditional public schools.

Home School Choice

Parents have to follow certain laws in Kansas when homeschooling their children.
