Former Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey Joins EdChoice Board of Directors

Longtime educational freedom champion helps shape its next era

As EdChoice celebrates 30 years of advancing educational freedom, former Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is joining the organization’s Board of Directors, bringing one of the nation’s most accomplished school choice leaders to help guide its next chapter. 

Throughout his two terms as Arizona’s governor, Ducey championed policies that made the state into a national model for educational freedom. Under his leadership, Arizona expanded its education savings account (ESA) program to make every K–12 student eligible, giving families unprecedented flexibility to choose the learning environment that best fits their children’s needs. The reform helped establish Arizona as a leader in educational freedom and inspired policymakers across the country to pursue similar opportunities for families. 

Ducey’s appointment reflects EdChoice’s continued commitment to bringing together leaders who have helped shape the educational freedom movement. As more states adopt and expand private school choice programs, his experience implementing transformational policy will help strengthen EdChoice’s work informing policymakers, equipping advocates, and empowering families. 

“Greater educational freedom is the legacy of Arizona and the legacy of Milton and Rose Friedman. That is why it is my distinct honor to join the Board of EdChoice as we carry forward and preserve the Friedmans’ vision of educational freedom for all children,” Ducey said. “While we’ve made remarkable progress, our work isn’t finished, and I look forward to helping expand educational opportunity for families across the country.” 

In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, Ducey will chair the newly established EdChoice Friedman Laureates, an invitation-only community of former governors, legislators, policymakers, and other distinguished leaders whose public service has expanded educational freedom. The initiative honors the legacy of Milton and Rose Friedman by recognizing those contributions while encouraging continued leadership as the movement enters a new era of growth. 

EdChoice President and CEO Robert Enlow said Ducey’s leadership has already left a lasting mark on the educational freedom movement.

Ducey joins existing EdChoice board members Enlow, Devin Anderson, J. Scott Enright, Virginia Walden Ford, Dr. David D. Friedman, Fred Klipsch, Fred Reams, Matthew Schreiber, and Dr. Michael Walker.
