Private School Choice

Puerto Rico has one private school choice program. It’s school voucher program is designed to help families afford to send their children to participating private schools.

Public School Choice

Students in Puerto Rico may transfer among public schools within their district (intradistrict) or outside their district (interdistrict). Puerto Rico has a few select magnet schools and charter schools.

Charter Schools

Puerto Rico does allow some charter schools. Parents who choose charter schools do so the same way many parents choose private schools—only charters are public and receive tax dollars.
