Rhode Island

Rhode Island offers K–12 students and their families a few types of school choice, including one private school choice program, charter schools, magnet schools, home schooling and inter-district and intra-district public school choice through open enrollment.

Private School Choice

Rhode Island has one private school choice program, a tax-credit scholarship. This program helps families send their children to participating private schools.

Public School Choice

Rhode Island has intra-district and inter-district open enrollment policies, which allow parents to transfer their children to traditional public schools outside of their zoned schools. Rhode Island has at least one magnet school.

Charter Schools

Rhode Island has a few charter schools. Charter schools are publicly funded schools that are free of many of the regulations that restrict traditional public schools.
